The traditional themes of Mithila come to life in Madhubani art. Painted with natural dyes on handmade paper, royal guards and soldiers of the king alternate in row after colorful row. The guards wear orange and the soldiers dress in green, depicted freehand by Indian artist Devendra Kumar Jha. Diminutive elephants accompany the men. Originating in northern Bihar, Madhubani painting was once used to decorate the floors and walls of homes.brbr As each painting is an individual creation, each is unique.
